Apple now rumored to launch iPhone 6 on October 14

If the rumors are true, October promises to be a busy month for Apple with new iPhones, iPads, and possibly the iWatch.
When will Apple release the iPhone 6? September has been the expected launch month based on the company's past behavior, but a new rumor suggests that consumers may need to wait until October.
The next-generation iPhone is now pegged to hit the market on October 14, at least according to an unnamed source who spoke with the folks at MacRumors. Citing an internal Apple retail store meeting, the source said that a senior store leader pointed to October 14 as an "immense" day for Apple and said that October would be a very busy month for the company and its retail stores.

Everything we want from the new smartphone

It's still a way off, but we all know the iPhone 6 is coming. Just what exactly Apple's latest smartphone will involve, however, is much harder to predict.
-Waterproofing
- A super high-resolution screen
- That 'one last thing' moment
- A camera that puts an end to compacts
- Free iCloud storage
- iOS 8 taking advantage of the bigger display
- Different colour schemes

Apple's new iPhone 6 could have biggest initial production

The company is anticipating large demand for the so-called iPhone 6 as it will be available with screens measuring 4.7 and 5.5 inches diagonally, the report said, citing unnamed sources.
The 70 to 80 million units by Dec. 30 would be much more than the 50 to 60 million units last year for the iPhone 5S and 5C, which have 4-inch screens. The iPhone 4S has a 3.5-inch display.
Apple has asked component makers to get ready to turn out up to 120 million new iPhones by the end of the year to take into account a possible higher failure rate for displays, the report said.

iPhone 6 may launch in September 19

New evidence points to a September 19 release date for Apple's next-generation iPhone, which is likely to be called iPhone 6.
It is hard to verify the authenticity of the flyer but it's worth pointing out that German carrier Deutsche Telekom had also reportedly given September 19 as the launch date for iPhone 6 in a communication to its customer representatives. The date also falls on a Friday, which is traditionally Apple's day of choice for starting the sale of a new iPhone.
There's also been a wave of conflicting reports including some based on analyst predictions, suggesting that the 5.5-inch model of the iPhone would be delayed till next year owing to component yield issues.
Other rumoured features of the next-generation iPhone include health-centred apps, 13MP camera, solar charging, scratch-resistant sapphire screen and faster Wi-Fi.

iPhone 6 mass production could kick off next week

According to a new report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, Foxconn is prepping to start mass production of the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone next week. This shouldn’t come as a surprise if the launch of the alleged iPhone 6 is set to be in September, which is usually the time when we get the first official look at the next-generation iPhone models.
In addition, the report further mentions that 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will enter mass production in mid-August, adding more credence to the rumors that hinted about the delayed launch of the phablet sized model.
The manufacturer is reportedly getting ready to hire extra workers to manufacture the upcoming device, and could hire as many as 100,000 employees due to high demand of the handset. This goes in line with a rumor we heard last month which stated Apple suppliers are hiring extra workers to handle the production of the upcoming iPhone 6.
Apple is rumored to be launching two iPhone 6 models by the end of the year, but we also saw a report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who stated it could be as late as 2015 before 5.5-inch iPhone 6 hits retail.

Will there be a revolutionary new design?

Here’s what we can expect, based on what the competition has come out with, and informed hints, such as the announcement of iOS 8: what is certain is that the new phone will have a bigger screen, more powerful camera, it will come with health monitoring aids and much more storage than the iPhone 5C.
Apple has even acknowledged that consumers want a larger screen after an internal slide was revealed in its court battle with Samsung entitled, ‘Consumers want what we don’t have’. Also, there are images that have hit the Web showing mock-ups of iPhone 6, which include a fingerprint scanner for additional security.
The major talking point, however, is that it will be a revolutionary new design. The screen is expected to be 4.7 inches and the leaked images show rounded edges which merge seamlessly into the chassis. The hot rumour is that this will be an expensive phone because the display is likely to be made out of sapphire crystal and will be unbreakable. Apple has been buying up enough sapphire for it to use the super-hard technology for its new phone. Apple already uses sapphire for its touch ID sensor cover and the camera glass. In fact, an additional feature on iPhone 6 will be Apple’s new touch ID fingerprint tech.
Given that one of the most common problems customers have with their iPhones is broken screen repair, sapphire makes sense.

iPhone 6 Might Miss Out on its Date With Sapphire Displays Owning to Low Yield

As per a new leak concerning the upcoming iPhone 6, Apple may not have enough stocks of the sapphire glass display to stamp it on every iPhone 6 that comes out of its gates this fall.
Or another option for Apple will be to keep the sapphire glass panel exclusive to a particular iPhone 6 version instead of making it standard fitment across all its models. Towards that, it's the top of the line 5.5 inch 128 GB iPhone 6 version that is considered to be the front runner for being the sole recipient of sapphire glass panels.
The revelation comes from a new note from JP Morgan to investors, a copy of which is also with the Taipei Times.
"Due to various challenges related to the new cover material, we believe the production output for sapphire covers will be low," said JPMorgan analysts. "Sapphire ingot yield rates could be as low as below 50 percent for this size, and finished sapphire smartphone covers may cost as much as US$40 to US$45 versus below US$10 for finished Gorilla glass."

iPhone 6 will have 13MP Camera, Ultra-Thin Battery and Mass Production Underway

One of the most significant upgrades to Apple's latest handset is going to be the camera, at least according to Chinese Sony blog Digi-Wo. The 8-megapixel sensor on current iPhone models is to be replaced by Sony's Exmor IMX220 sensor, which features a 13-megapixel sensor.

Taiwan-based tech site Digitimes has claimed that the battery for the iPhone 6 will just be 2mm thick. That's two-thirds the size of the current battery in the iPhone 5s and 5c.It is widely expected that the iPhone 6 will come in two sizes - a 4.7inch and a 5.5inch version - and Digitimes believes that it would be the smaller of the two that features the 2mm-thick battery.

Apple supplier Foxconn has begun mass production of the 4.7inch iPhone 6, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News. The publication reports that the smaller of the two models was due to hit the assembly line in the third week of July, while the 5.5inch model will enter mass production in the second week of August.

Here comes the iPhone 6

Many smartphone buyers are waiting for Apple’s iPhone 6 models to come out, the company’s first devices that will finally offer bigger displays. Well, the wait is almost over. Rumored to launch in September, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models will soon enter mass production, Reuters reports.
According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, cited by Reuters, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will enter mass production starting next week, while the 5.5-inch model will go to mass production almost a month later, during the second week of August.
The publication is also citing a report issued on Thursday by a China state-run news service, which said that Foxconn will hire 100,000 workers to meet Apple’s iPhone demands this year, which is in line with what unconfirmed reports said earlier this month.
Pegatron, the other iPhone 6 maker in the region, has also hired more than 10,000 additional workers to manufacture the new iPhone, as Apple is expected to sell up to 70 million iPhone 6 units this year.
Apple is expected to launch at least two new iPhones in fall, both featuring a completely new design, as suggested by many leaks showing iPhone 6 dummy units. The company’s iPhone 6 announcement could take place at some point in early September, with devices hitting stores by the end of that month.

Why Apple's iPhone 6 Won't Be US Manufactured

What with the rumour mill about Apple's AAPL +1.44% upcoming iPhone 6 (or whatever they’re going to call it) hyping up into a gorgeous crescendo a small little point about why such mass electronics manufacturing just isn’t going to return to the US in any foreseeable timescale. It’s just not about the cost of US labour as compared to that of foreign labour: it’s much, much, more about the flexibility of that foreign labour as opposed to US labour.
Here’s the specific piece of news that makes that point:
A recent rumor suggested that Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone 6 sometime in September, and today another pair of reports have surfaced that appear to back that claim up.
According to Taiwanese publication Economic Daily News, Hon Hai/Foxconn will begin mass production of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 during the third week of July. Production of the larger 5.5-inch model is expected to get underway during the second week of August.
In order to help meet Apple’s production demands, Foxconn will hire 100,000 workers to ensure that it can manufacture enough iPhone 6 units to meet future demand.
Leave aside those bits that are irrelevant to my point, whether the iPhone 6 will have a 5.5 inch screen, whether it will even be called the iPhone 6, and concentrate on that figure of 100,000 workers. There is simply no way at all that it would be possible to hire 100,000 workers in the US in any one, or even in several, locations between now and the supposed launch of the phone in two month’s time.

iPhone 6 to go into production 'this month'

Apple's next-generation iPhone is tipped to go into production later this month, ahead of an expected commercial launch in the autumn.
Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd will begin mass production of a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in the third week of July, according to reports in the local press.
Production of a the widely-rumoured 5.5-inch version will begin during the second week of August, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported.
Meanwhile, a China state-run news service reports that Hon Hai is planning to hire 100,000 workers at its mainland facilities to meet future demand for the iPhone, citing comments by the chief of the Henan Provincial Commerce Department.

One of the most important iPhone 6 parts just leaked for the first time

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 is going to be quite different from the company’s current iPhone models. For one thing, it will finally feature a larger display. For another, it will sport a huge redesign that is thinner than any iPhone before it, and the edges will be smooth and round instead of flat, like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. Some things won’t change on the iPhone 6, of course, and one of its most important parts that was called up from Apple’s previous flagship iPhone model has seemingly just leaked for the first time.
Japanese gadget blog ASCII.jp on Wednesday published the first ever images of what is believed to be the Touch ID sensor from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6. Apple first introduced its TouchID fingerprint scanner on last year’s iPhone 5s, allowing users to unlock their phones and authenticate App Store purchases wirth just a quick fingerprint scan.
The tech was born from Apple’s $356 million acquisition of AuthenTec and in iOS 8, Apple has broadened Touch ID’s capabilities.

Samsung battles on two fronts as Apple readies iPhone 6

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is losing smartphone ground not only to cheaper Chinese rivals but also at the high end to Apple Inc (AAPL), a survey showed, in an ominous sign for the South Korean giant as Apple readies to launch its next-generation iPhone 6.
Samsung last week gave second-quarter earnings guidance that was far weaker than expectations and is on track for its worst quarterly profit in two years, a performance the company attributed in part to price competition and higher inventory levels in China.
Research firm Counterpoint's survey of 35 markets accounting for nearly 90 percent of global sales found that sales for the eight-month-old iPhone 5s stood at 7 million in May, compared with about 5 million for Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5, which was in just its second full month of sales after a late March release.
Counterpoint said that the Galaxy S5 appeared to be doing worse than the Galaxy S4 had done in its early launch against the iPhone 5, with each selling about 7 million units a month. The data measure retailers' sales to consumers as opposed to typical industry data that look at shipments made by the manufacturer.
The Galaxy brand has been weakened because it's selling $100, $200, $300 phones while Apple only sells $400 and above, so they might even need to throw away their Galaxy brand.

Apple reportedly fixes battery issue with 5.5-inch iPhone 6

A new manufacturer has allegedly cooked up a battery thin enough for the body of the rumored biggest-screen-yet iPhone.
Apple may have solved at least one challenge facing its much-rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6.
Unable to coax the right type of battery for the phone out of certain suppliers, Apple reportedly has discovered a white knight in the form of a company known as Simplo. Calling itself the "world leading battery pack designer," Simplo has purportedly done something no other manufacturers could do: create a battery thin and light enough for the biggest-screen-yet iPhone 6, according to the G for Games site, citing a report from Taiwan's Economic Daily News.
Rumors popped up in April claiming that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 was facing production delays due to bottlenecks in the battery design. Apple reportedly wants to equip the large phone with a thin body. But that goal has created obstacles for manufacturers that would need to design a battery no more than 2 millimeters thick. Smartphone batteries typically are 2.8mm to 2.9mm thick.

In a post since removed but spotted by loadthegame, a seller on Amazon Japan’s marketplace published a product page for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 revealing a host of details:
-Dimensions of 130 x 65 x 7mm (5.11 x 2.56 x 0.275 inches)
-Weight of 113g (3.985 oz)
-Gold remains a colour option
-Up to 64GB memory
-139,999 yen retail price
What remains unknown is the chipset. Apple will dub it the ‘A8′ as it follows the A7 in the iPhone 5S, but the number of cores, their clock speed and the amount of RAM will all come under close scrutiny.

Apple's large 'iPhone 6' may hit production problems

Now, however, a stunning new render of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 gives us a different perspective.
First of all, the plastic strips said to cover the antennas on the back of the new iPhone are not rendered in the same shape as they are in the leaked iPhone 6 schematics. In fact, the iPhone 6 might not have plastic strips at all; a recent report suggests these lines actually mark off the areas where the iPhone 6 will have glass panels similar to the ones on the back of the iPhone 5s.
Beyond the antenna sections, the sapphire display cover on Yogarasa does not feature curved edges, as it’s expected to on the actual iPhone 6. Also, there almost certainly won’t be a red version of the iPhone 6.

Will we see a 5.5-inch iPhone this year?

If the rumors are true, those awaiting the debut of the iPhablet may have to wait until next year.
The Apple iPhone 6 is widely expected to debut later this year. And, rumor has it, in two different versions – a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model. But an analyst has said that the 5.5-inch version, or "phablet" version, is facing production issues and will not become available until 2015, meaning the smaller 4.7-inch version would be released on its own with a larger version delayed until 2015, according to Apple Insider.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with KGI Securities, revealed these details in a supposed note on Sunday that was obtained by Apple Insider.

iPhone 6 Release Date Confirmed, Ways To Speed Up Old iPhones While Waiting

iPhone 6 is the most awaited phone this year, confirmed specs and rumoured ones are going viral for consumer's interests. Users are still holding on to their old iPhone until all features and specs are confirmed and iPhone 6 is officially released.
Normally, smartphones have a life expectancy of two years but with proper care, it should last longer than that. However, it will still be vulnerable to some technical problems. Smartphones with older features may be running slow right now.
Old iPhones with this problem still have simple ways to solve this situation.
- Clean your iPhone
- Delete what's filling up your memory storage
- Restart your iPhone
These tips will help users run their iPhones faster while waiting for the release of iPhone 6. Of course, if you want to save more money or you just love your current iPhone, this is the best solution to keep your phone working.

Apple's iPhone 6 May Have This Stunning Feature

As part of the next-generation iPhone and iPad products, Apple will almost surely equip them with a system-on-a-chip dubbed the A8. The big question is just what the A8 is going to look like. In a previous piece, I speculated that Apple could be using Imagination Technologies' PowerVR Series 6XT as the graphics processor in the A8. However, Apple may use the A8 as a launch vehicle for something relatively new.
Indeed, Apple has been showing signs that it has built -- and continues to add to -- its in-house graphics processor design team for quite some time. Though the timing of the deployment of the first graphics processor designed by this team is uncertain, it could be as early as the A8. If so, Apple could gain a significant performance and power advantage over the off-the-shelf Imagination Technology designs (even if these GPU designs leverage Imagination IP, as implied by Imagination's February announcement vis-a-vis Apple).

iPhone 6 Release Date September 2014 Rumor: Priced At $965 For 5.5-inch 16 GB

Multiple sources have reported that the Apple iPhone 6 release date is Sept 25, 2014.
With only about a month and a half left before it arrives, we are finally beginning to learn
a number of key details on the latest iPhone. Most importantly, Apple will not be releasing
one iPhone 6, but two!
The 4.7-inch model is relatively the same size as most 5-inch Android handsets and because
of the thicker bezels, the screen on the new iPhone 6 display is at an 0.3 inch disadvantage to
the other phones. Time will tell whether the smaller screen size will affect the success of the iPhone 6.
That said, TechSmartt notes that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is definitely more ergonomically friendly than
the 5.5-inch iPhone and will likely be the more popular variant when the new iPhone 6 goes on sale.

iPhone 6 may offer better battery performance

Battery performance is one of the top complaints of smartphone users. Assuming the report from IT168 is even accurate, the 4.7-inch iPhone would use an 1,800 mAh battery, which would still keep the phone thin. Recent rumors claim that the next-generation iPhone will be thinner than previous models. The larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 would go even further by packing a 2,500 mAh battery, representing a 60 percent jump in battery performance from the iPhone 5S, AppleInsider noted.

iPhone 6 screen looks like sapphire, says expert who spoke to Apple

iPhone 6 is expected to have a 4.7in scratch resistant sapphire crystal screen. Apple discussed forming screens from super-hard “sapphire glass” 18 months ago with experts in the field, making a sapphire-fronted iPhone 6 highly likely, the Guardian has established.Apple already uses sapphire crystal for its camera lenses and the cover of the iPhone 5S's Touch ID fingerprint sensor, but the super-hard material - the third hardest known - could make excellent screens that are much more scratch resistant than traditional glass and potentially even Corning’s Gorilla Glass, which covers the majority of smartphone and tablet screens.

iPhone 6 might let you 'feel' objects on screen

The next killer feature on Apple's expected iPhone 6 could be a display that provides tactile feedback to users - giving users the impression, for instances, of a physical keyboard on a flat touchscreen.
This latest iPhone 6 rumor stems from a report Wednesday on Chinese site Laoyaoba, which said so-called "haptics" technology will be added into the new device.
Haptics technology is built into devices to create tactile feedback or vibrations so a user feels something when touching the screen of a mobile device. For instance, someone could feel the sensation of clicking a button or moving an object around the screen when using the technology.

The tech giant has applied for a patent for the invention - but there's no indication of whether it will go ahead.
The system will automatically unlock your phone in a safe location like your home but then lock when you leave in the same way your phone automatically connects to your Wi-Fi.

iPhone 6 design debate gets testy

With new "iPhone 6" mockups surfacing daily, the Apple faithful can get testy about pushing their vision of the sight-unseen device.
The latest kerfuffle came this week after Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun (aka, Nikkei) reprinted a report from Nikkei Design, a sister publication, claiming their sources -- a Chinese site that sells iPhone parts -- had a new take on the design.
Nikkei claims that the glaring stripe is not accurate and will not appear in the final design -- at least as currently depicted in mockups. Some observers seemed to agree with this.
On another design point, Nikkei went so far to say that the Apple logo will be etched -- or cut -- into the back panel, not polished and engraved like the 5S.

Apple's phablet version of iPhone 6 to be named 'iPhone Air'; launch date on September 25

If industry sources are to be believed, Apple enthusiasts can expect the launch of the next iPhone as early as September 25.
Apple Insider reported on Thursday, quoting a Chinese language website, that Apple might announce the iPhone 6 by September 15, ten days ahead of formally launching it in the first group of countries.
Apple Insider, however, has its doubts, considering that Apple has always launched a product on a Friday and September 25 is a Thursday. Price-wise, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, a 32 GB model, is speculated to cost around $850.
Another rumour that has taken the internet with a frenzy is talks of a new 5.5-inch "phablet" version of the next iPhone being dubbed the 'iPhone Air'. Mockups of this alleged new phone that have already surfaced all over the internet, show a sleeker gadget with a larger screen and rounded edges, competing with the likes of HTC One.

Expected specifications of iPhone 6 handsets:

Both iPhone 6 (4.7-inch) and iPhablet (aka iPhone Air) are expected to ship with the new generation 64-bit architecture Apple A8 processor, 1GB RAM, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, 8.0-megapixel camera with f2.2 aperture (with the possibility of featuring OIS: Optical Image Stabilizations), NFC and a slightly larger battery (50-70 percent more watts power to feed the energy-sapping iPhablet's large screen).
The prospects of a large screen featuring in the iPhone 6 series handsets has reportedly spiked the consumer interest level in Apple products, compared to previous years.
According to the study 'Change Wave' conducted by a market analyst firm 451 Research, which has focused largely on North American population, 14 percent of the interviewed consumers (total of more than 4000) have opined 'very likely' to buy Apple's yet-to-be-announced iPhone 6, whereas 26 percent were 'somewhat likely' to buy the new phone.
Going by this research, Apple is more likely to have windfall sales of iPhone 6 devices this holiday season, and will probably close the gap with reigning smartphone leader Samsung.

New report claims to reveal release date for iPhone 6 and ‘iPhone Air’

So far, we have seen two reports claim to peg the iPhone 6′s release date. The first came alongside word that Apple carrier partner Deutsche Telekom was having its call center staff contact some customers in an effort to get them ready to upgrade to the iPhone 6 once it is released, and they claimed that the phone will launch on September 19th.
Then, a subsequent report from Tencent also stated that Apple’s next-generation iPhone will hit store shelves on September 19th.
But according to a new report from China.com, Apple will change things up this year and launch its new smartphones on Thursday, September 25th.
The report claims that Apple will launch both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch model on that date, and it suggests that the larger of the two phones will be named “iPhone Air.” That moniker is hardly confirmed, of course, but it’s safe to say that Apple will not simply call it the “iPhone 6,” as blogs have been referring to it.
Finally, the report claims that both new iPhone models will be unveiled by Apple on Monday, September 15th, which seems highly unlikely.

The Curved iPhone 6 Screen Is Great News For Consumers, But Still Leaves iOS Developers In The Dark

This week it was 9to5Mac’s images of the glass layer of the screen, which shows a more rounded edge. If this is the actual design (as always, the jury is out until the reveal of the final product) then the styling of the iPhone 6 edges will be in line with handsets such as the Nexus 4 and the Lumia 925.
Peripheral designers have a large and porous supply chain to help them get ready for the launch, unfortunately iOS developers have nothing to go on when designing for the new screen size.
It’s clear that there is going to be a new physical screen size on the new iPhone. What’s not clear is what size the developers will need to code for. It’s all well and good proclaiming 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, but unless the pixel size is known, then developers are going to be left in a state of limbo.

Latest iPhone 6 Mockups Could Offer Preview of the Real Thing

We've seen many, many mockups of the purported iPhone 6 over the past half year — tons — and even though all of these mockups are just that, as time progresses, they may actually be getting closer to what the final end product could be.
As we get closer to the manufacturing start date of Apple's next smartphone, supply-chain leaks tend to become more accurate. We saw it with the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and the iPad Air.
The mockup, which clearly isn't of Apple quality — is reportedly missing "key details," but some of the images align with what we've seen elsewhere. For instance, the screen is thinner and rounder. The display, which may actually be curved, will also reportedly fit into the aluminum shell perfectly, eschewing the diamond-cut edge on the iPhone 5S
As for the white stripes on the back of the device — those aren't supposed to be antenna markers. Instead, they're supposed to be for glass on the back panel.

New leaks show off an iPhone 6 with curved edge

The next iPhone may look significantly different from the 5S and 5C, shown here.
While it's unlikely Apple could have gone with a curved display for its upcoming smartphone, there were plenty of curved-related rumors circulating as early as as last year. However, the unit looked like a rough draft.
The latest leak from Dickson, which 9to5Mac published Monday, shows off glass covers with tapering edges for the rumored 4.7-inch iPhone (though nothing was revealed about the supposed phablet-sized 5.5-inch version).
